Friday Fiction: The Hand

At 18 she left her small hometown, to see the world. She got a master’s degree, and a very high paying job.
35 years later, she woke to a disturbing dream and the feeling that she’d not returned home often enough. It was time for a visit.
Her parents proudly paraded their successful daughter through the city square.
She froze in front of a statue of a man.
“This is new,” her father said. “3 weeks old.”
3 weeks ago? That was when she’d had the dream of a hand reaching for her.
Her eyes traced the leaning figure to the outstretched arm.
Just beyond the reaching hand stood her high school sweetheart.
