Mondays Finish the Story: The Party
Mondays Finish the Story is a flash fiction challenge where we provide you with a new photo each week, and the first sentence of a story.
This week’s sentence is: “A body suddenly crashed through a plate glass window at the Brigadier’s house.”
It was supposed to be a surprise and what a surprise it was. It was grandma’s 90th birthday. Almost ninety children, grand children, great-grand children were in attendance from around the world.
Just before she was to cut the cake, “a body suddenly crashed through a plate glass window at the Brigadier’s house.”
He was home on leave and had come to declare his love. Even though he was not invited to the party, he was determined to make his feelings known in such a way that his love could not be denied.
He parachuted out of a plane, through the plate glass, disconnected himself from the parachute, pulled out the engagement ring, and called her name, “Lorelei.”
He looked around expectantly. She did not appear. He called again, but no one came forth.
To his embarrassment, he was at the wrong party.
