Monday Finish the Story: One Great Con

Mondays Finish the Story posts a photo and the first line of the story of which I’m to finish.  You’ll find it, it’s in italic. This week I slightly changed the sentence. Sorry, I have trouble staying in the lines.

The original sentence is:

“The Mayor and the town manager waved as their next victim approached.”

“One of these days . . .”

“I know, but not today. Is every thing ready?”

“Yeah, I just think . . .”

“Don’t repeat yourself.” The Mayor clapped his hands in anticipation. This is gong to be great. She’s a city girl who wants to experience the country like.” His belly shook as he laughed.

“This isn’t a good idea.”

“Nathan, we’re the only one left in this town. How do you expect us to make a living? How are we going to buy food?”

“We could garden.”

“What about winter?”

Nathan just stood and stared.

“I didn’t think so.” The mayor checked his watch. “She’s right on time.”

The Mayor and the town manager were expecting another great con. They got Mary Beth instead.
