Friday Fictioneer: Jar of Batteries

“But what?”

“It’s just that . . .”

“What?”

“I jar of batteries for Valentine’s.”

“Oh, you wanted romance.”

“I was hoping.”

Jeff opened the jar and took one AAA batteries out. “I thought if I fixed your grandmother’s music box you’d be happy.”

Suzie sighed. It was sweet, but she’d hoped for something more special.

Jeff placed the batteries in the bottom of the music box and turned the key. He held the small box in his hand and opened it.

As the music began, the ballerina rose. On her tutu was a diamond engagement ring.
