Books and Movies: Ian Fleming

Ian Fleming was an naval intelligence officer and English author of 14 James Bond spy novels, which inspired 26 James Bond movies. There are a total of 39 novels written by 6 different authors.

Fleming wrote his first novel in 6 weeks, after which he published one book a year.

To my surprise I resonantly learned, Fleming is also the author of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.

In 1968, the book became a movie with Dick Van Dyke as the lead actor. I’d seen the movie as a child, but didn’t remember much about it.

I ordered the book and movie from the library.

Chitty Chitty Bang Bang is an old rusty, junk yard car, which the family buys. The father fixes it up. The car then takes the family on adventures.

The movie had elements of the book, but was mostly completely different. I don’t know why, the book would have made just as fun of a children’s story. Too bad they didn’t make two separate movies.

Both are good for a the average age of a third grader and the young of heart.
