Friday Fictioneer: The Gate
“I’m telling you. Billions of people, only a handful knows.”
“Huge underground city; elves live there.”
“What are you talking about?”
“That bird, it’s one of theirs. Saw it when I was down there.”
“You know you’re an idiot.”
“I’m telling you.”
“Yeah? What’s the city like?”
“More beautiful than you can imagine.”
Two elves stalking the bird heard the conversation. They stopped to listen.
“Forget the bird. We need to secure the gate.”
“We need the bird. Besides, who’s going to believe them?”
“Plenty of gold, silver, jewels.”
“Right. Forget the bird. Close the gate.”
