“He let you put them up?”

“Yes. The owner likes me. He thought it was a great idea.”

“Why?”

“We’re here in secret.”

“This I know.”

She leaned in and softly said, “No one is going to let me use SETI.”

He leaned over the table and said, “Okay, but why umbrellas?”

“They’re not umbrellas, they’re antennas. I programmed them to work together to boost our signal.”

He leaned back and smiled. “You sent a signal to our part of the galaxy in the hopes someone will hear and come rescue us. Brilliant.”

“Yes, I have phoned home.”
